Encouraged by the success of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, the Government of India proposed to work towards creating a universal social security system for all Indians, especially for the poor, underprivileged and the workers in unorganised sector, using the bank accounts as the basis for launching the schemes.
PMJDY has provided a platform for the three social security schemes viz. Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Beema Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), and Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY).
Atal Pension Yojna: Atal Pension Yojana is a government-backed pension scheme in India, primarily targeted at workers in the unorganised sector like personal maids, drivers, gardeners amongst others.
Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana: Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) is a one-year life insurance scheme, renewable from year to year, offering coverage for death. The cover under PMJJBY is for death only and hence benefit will accrue only to the nominee. People, who join this scheme before completing the age of 50, can continue to have the risk of life cover up to the age of 55 years, subject to the payment of premium. The scheme has an annual premium of Rs.436, with a risk coverage of Rs.2,00,000.
Pradhan Mantri Suraksha BimaYojna: Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana is a government-backed accident insurance scheme in India that provides risk coverage in case of accidental death, partial or full disability. The insured amount for accidental death or full disability is Rs. 2,00,000 and Rs. 1,00,000 for partial disability. It has an annual premium of Rs. 20 only.
Mediclaim Plans: Mediclaim or hospitalisation plans are the most basic type of health insurance plans. They cover the cost of treatment when you are admitted to the hospital. The payout is made on actual expenses incurred in the hospital by submitting original bills. Most of these plans cover the entire family up to a certain limit.
Critical Illness Insurance Plans:Critical Illness Insurance Plans cover specific life-threatening diseases. These diseases could require prolonged treatment or even a change in lifestyle. Unlike hospitalisation plans, the payout is made on Critical Illness cover chosen by the customer and not on actual expenses incurred in the hospital. The cover gives the flexibility to use the monies for changing lifestyles and medicines. Also, it's a substitute for income for the time you could not resume work due to illness. Payouts under these plans are made on the diagnosis of the disease for which the original medical bills are not required.
Personal Accident Insurance Plans:Personal accident insurance plans offer financial protection against health complications arising out of an accident. These plans cover expenses like ambulance costs, surgeries, medicines and post-operative rehabilitation expenses, among other things..
